Is the Church doing enough?
As a church girl, I have always found church proceedings to be beneficial but not always practical with regards to helping church-goers in achieving their goals and dreams. I know I am stepping on some toes now but hopefully you'll get what I am trying to say.
Pastors have different gift and docrines, some are good at motivating, putting you in the right spirit, good mood and a feeling of improved self-worth. Some are teachers of the word, they'll paint a clear picture of the bible and it's meaning. There are also several gifts within the church that help with several spiritual needs. These are all beneficial for our spiritual enhancements and feeding our souls. Howerever I have found these not to be always practical. Many times the message is forgotten, let alone practised.
I mean what happens after a powerful, fire-filled, holy-ghost-filled service? Do you go home and write down how you will go out there and penetrate the business and corporate world , with the power that you know you possess from the Holy spirit and God? Do you get a clear sense of how you will achieve your goals through delegent planning, research and other delebarate actions towards achieving your goals. How are we planning to achieve the first command from God in Genesis 1:28 "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground." Or you just using the sermons to feel good, read the bible to feel "Blessed"?
I have heard countless sermons on the above scripture, truth is, very few people take action after such sermons. Is it maybe believing that God will send his angels to bring you the perfect job and business? That if you pray hard enough , the flood gates of heaven will open and all the wealth with come flowing? At church, we learn of the powers we possess from being created in the image of God and having power to even do more works than Christ did. In John 14:12, Jesus says, “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father.” Do you think Christ did the great works by going to church, getting motivation and going home to read the bible all day, then miracles happened? Hell no! He went out to the world doing what he was sent on earth to do. Do you even know what you are here to do? Do you have clear dreams and goals, how about a plan to achieve them? Are we using the Church as a drug, to get a "high", to get a feeling that you worth something and somebody loves you no matter how messed up or lazy you are?
Without a doubt, having Faith is important, but faith without works is dead, James 2:14-15, 14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead."
Do we not all want success in all areas of our life. Do you not want to subdue the earth and rule over it. What about wealth and riches? I am not referring to 'miracle money', that other churches claim is possible. I mean coaching congregants to obtain wealth, achieve their dreams and desires. Churches hold a lot of power, more than we care to admit, especially in black communities. A lot could be done towards uplifting people to "do it" for themselves. I am not referring to charity but true empowerment.
I would appreciate to get comments from members of churches who are doing tangible things to empower people to create and obtain wealth. Maybe other churches could learn from it.
"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil" This bible verse got advice on how to be a slave (you never know when that might come in handy) and how to not get caught up in the rat race of becoming wealthy. so we were told from a very young age that money isn't everything, the real treasure's in heaven, and so on that is why we focus more on our spiritual wealthy
ReplyDeleteTrue Sne, This is how we were taught which is very misleading because money is a necessity for survival. There are many other scriptures in the bible supporting that we should be rulers of the earth, but we tend to believe tend to believe that one more. This is very sad
